Kankakee Community College hosted Kennedy King College Saturday afternoon, claiming a dominant victory and extending their winning streak to four games.
In the first half, the Cavaliers sprung out to an early lead when quick plays from Quesim Anderson, Khylan McKennie, and Lucas Burton put KCC up 9-2. The Statesmen fought back, with four players combining to score nine points. The Cavs found creative ways to score, with a rebound and full-court pass to Joshua Ray for two, and an alley-oop by Chavez Woods and Ray for another two points to go up 21-11.
Kennedy-King scored four points on a short surge before Anderson, Burton, and McKennie from the Cavs scored eight more consecutive points. The Statesmen interrupted the run with two points before KCC added another five.
At halftime, KCC led the contest 44-26.
In the second half, the Statesmen narrowed the Cavs’ lead to 11. At one point, KCC’s Burton scored nine more. The Cavs’ biggest lead was 75-53 and eventually walked away with a 94-75 win.
Following their victory, the Cavaliers are now 12-5, and will host Triton College at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17.
The Cavs had eight players score in the game. Burton (28 points) and McKennie (20 points) led the Cavaliers in scoring. Noah Mason and Ray had 10 points apiece, including 2-of-2 and 2-of-3 free throws, respectively. Also scoring: Woods (9 points),Dwain Nash (8 points), Anderson (6 points) and Smith (3 points).
