Lady Cavs Open Region Tournament with Win Over Moraine Valley
ROCKFORD, Ill. — Kankakee Community College opened postseason play with a strong all-around performance, defeating Moraine Valley Community College 5-2 in the first round of the Region 4 tournament.
The Lady Cavs used timely offense and a dominant complete-game effort from Hope McLeod to advance in the postseason bracket. McLeod led the way both in the circle and at the plate, helping KCC control the game from start to finish.
McLeod threw all seven innings for KCC, allowing seven hits and no earned runs while striking out nine. She did not issue a walk and faced 31 batters in the complete-game victory.
Offensively, McLeod added two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run. Emma Powers delivered one of the biggest swings of the game, finishing with a double and two RBIs. Brittyn Bailey, Sophia Culp, and McLeod each added an RBI for the Lady Cavs.
KCC finished with six hits as a team and created additional pressure on the bases. Bailey, Savanna Trivett, and Adelynn Lubben each stole a base, helping the Lady Cavs manufacture scoring chances throughout the game.
Bailey went 1-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. Trivett added a hit and scored, while Culp came through with a hit and an RBI. Kayna Nelson and Lubben each reached base and scored for KCC.
Defensively, the Lady Cavs also turned a double play, with Sadie Scofield and Powers helping KCC limit Moraine Valley's offensive opportunities.
The win gave KCC a strong start to the Region 4 tournament and kept the Lady Cavs moving forward in postseason play.
